Ted's News Launched

Hi,

This blog was created for HONR 229F to provide commentary and interesting thoughts on the world of emerging media.  It is a very interesting time in the history of human communication.  That enormous cyber organism we call the Internet has found it's way into the home of billions.  Through pressing a button and clicking a mouse, the average person can access a world of information that kings would never have dreamed of exploring 300 years ago.  News, academic research, emerging philosophical ideas, and random facts that no one cares about have all been placed right at our finger tips.    But not only have we been empowered to learn more than ever before, we have also been empowered to say more than ever before.   Blogs have sprung up by the thousands.  Everyone is providing commentary on everything whether they know anything about it or not.  The lines of communication are open from everyone to everyone.  How will this communication revolution effect the way we think?  How will change our perception of the world?  Will we take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and learn more than ever before?  Will we under value knowledge and become intellectually lazy and allow someone else to do all our thinking for us?  Will we squander our time on pop culture news or the latest fifty cent online game?  What is the best way to harness the enormous power of collaboration that we now have?  Is too much knowledge ever a bad thing?  These are some of the questions I hope to explore in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned!
